A SALUTE TO CHUCK STEVENS
By Ronnie Dee
I want to salute one of the best disc jockeys in the
Rhode Island area. "The Chucker," as most of us called
him, spent the better part of the '50s and '60s at the
top of the class on Rhode Island radio.
I attribute my getting in the business primarily to Chuck
when I interned with him on WPAW in Pawtucket, Rhode
Island, for many years. He also worked on many other
local stations such as WHIM, WXTR, WGNG, WRIB and more.
He was a unique personality spinning an excellent choice of music, intermingled with his wit and a bit of harmless sarcasm. I remember working with him at many of the oldies shows in our area which he hosted. Chuck was "one of a kind," special and a good friend.
Chuck was inducted into the Rhode Island Radio Hall of Fame on May 22, 2008. Chuck has gone now to Disck Jockey Heaven, but we will never forget him and his classic "Hello, you" at the beginning of each and every show.
